The Fortnight Extended: the 2024 selection on international tour!
From October, the Directors' Fortnight is taking its 2024 selection around the world.
After the ‘Quinzaine en salle’ event last June (a week of previews of the selection's 20 films in over 30 cinemas across France) the 2024 selection continues its journey. Starting this fall, the Fortnight will be exported in the form of showcases in 4 cities: Recife, New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo. Each city will host a panel of films from the selection in a partner cinema open to the public.
“We are delighted to launch the Directors' Fortnight international tour program: The Fortnight Extended. It's a way for us to take films from the last selection around the world and continue to support them. This year, the Fortnight will take place on three continents, in three key cinema countries.
In Brazil: as part of the Recife Film Festival, curated by director Kleber Mendonça Filho. The Fortnight had to be present in South America, where creative activity is showing impressive vitality, and particularly in Brazil. In fact, in 2025, the Nordeste will be home to the Directors' Factory, our scheme to encourage the emergence of new talent.
In the USA: in New York at the Museum of the Moving Image, then in Los Angeles through Acropolis Cinema at the Culver Theater over two consecutive weekends. A unique opportunity to celebrate the historic bond between the USA and the Fortnight as a launching pad for young American cinema. It will also be a chance to meet directors and producers of independent and genre cinema.
In Japan: at the Human Trust cinema in Tokyo's Shibuya district, in partnership with VIPO. The Fortnight remains faithful to the unrivalled dynamism of production from Asia (two films honored by the Caméra d'Or jury in the last two years) and to the young Japanese cinema that the festival has never ceased to discover. From artist- director Takeshi Kitano, who signed the 2024 poster, to the exciting new generation of filmmakers.
During these reruns, each venue will present a panel of films from the 2024 edition put together by its programmer.”
