Once upon a time, there was a revolution in Covas do Barroso, a village in northern Portugal. A hybrid documentary in which, between songs and Western imagery, the villagers stage their own struggle - which is still going on - against the industrial project that threatens their land. The British firm Savannah Resources hopes to develop and exploit what would become the largest open-cast lithium mine in Europe. It's a ballad of resistance that at times evokes the cinema of Luc Moullet or Alain Guiraudie.

Paulo Carneiro

Born in Lisbon, 1990 and raised in Pontinha, Paulo Carneiro graduated in Sound and Image from ESAD.CR and obtained a Master's from the National Film School (ESTC) in Lisbon and HEAD in Geneva. In 2018 he directed his first film Bostofrio, which won multiple awards and was shown in more than 40 film festivals. Périphérique Nord premiered at Visions du Réel in 2022. Paulo founded the production company Bam Bam Cinema in 2018 and is currently preparing his fourth feature film Nha terra nha força.
