Philip Noyce

Born in Australia, he moved to Sydney with his family. He was 18 when he made his first film, the 15-minute: Better to Reign in Hell. He attended the Australian National Film School. Here, he made Castor and Pollux, a 50-minute documentary which won the award for best Australian short film.?? Noyce’s first professional film was a docu-drama. He then directed a road movie. In 1978, he directed and co-wrote Newsfront which won Best Film, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay at the Australian Film Awards. Returning to his native Australia after 12 years working within the Hollywood system??, Noyce had 2 films released worldwide at almost the same time (Academy nominated best actor performance) and Rabbit-Proof Fence (Best Picture at the Australian Film Awards). He won best director awards . Catch A Fire was named one of the top Independent Films of 2006 by the National Board of Review in the US. Noyce’s credits also inlude television.
