He started on stage in New York in a play of John Patrick Shanley, Danny and the Deep Blue Sea and won an Obie award. He continued in plays of Brandon Cole or Joseph Chaikin for example. In cinema, he performed with directors such as William Friedkin, Martin Scorsese, Michael Cimino, Tony Bill. In 1991, he was awarded in Cannes as best actor. He was main character in Mac, the first film he directed.
